About
A Taste of the Mediterranean in Victoria
At Fig Deli, we bring together the flavours and traditions of the Mediterranean in a welcoming neighbourhood deli. Our kitchen prepares a variety of fresh, flavourful dishes—from spanakopita and falafel to salads, dips, manoushi and more—alongside a selection of Mediterranean groceries, cheeses, olives, spices, oils and other specialty ingredients.
Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch, picking up dinner to take home, or looking for catering for your next gathering, we hope you'll find something you enjoy. We’re grateful to be part of our community and to have become a place where people can discover new flavours, find familiar favourites, and enjoy good food.
Family owned and operated
Yasser Youssef, the gregarious founder of Fig Deli, came to Victoria from Lebanon at age 17 and obtained a Bachelor of Environmental Science at UVic. In 2002, he opened a modest Middle Eastern grocery store called Lakehill Market. Over the years, word spread about his unique products and he soon outgrew the original location. In 2014, he expanded to a full-service Fig Deli at Cedar Hill Cross Road and Shelbourne Street.
The business continues to be family run and Youssef family members are often seen behind the counter. Yasser’s son Atef now helps run the business and has a passion to introduce people to incredible food from across the Mediterranean and Middle East.
Yasser appreciates living on Vancouver Island and has become an avid gardner and fisherman. His son Atef is also often on the water, captaining a fishing charter boat in his spare time.
